Principles of the Diamond Design

The distinctive Diamond shape of Breg's functional and arthritis knee braces provides optimal support for ACL, PCL and collateral ligament protection.  The Diamond shape offers superior strength to varus/valgus bending for optimal knee and graft protection.  In a typical rectangular knee brace, the valgus movement of the knee is resisted by the bending strength of the linear sidebars.  In Breg's diamond design, valgus motion is resisted by the bending strength of the angled diamond shape, an inherently stronger design as evidenced by its use in bridge construction and race car frames.  In 1998, Breg introduced the first functional knee brace designed just for women.  The concept of a women's brace was to better fit the proportionally lighter and shorter female leg.  Additionally, with a woman's wider hip base, the valgus forces on the knee are grater on a female than male, that's why Breg's unique "Diamond Design" is so important for optimal support and protection of the ACL and PCL.
